Server Side Includes (SSI) is a simple server-side language, which allows you to include text from a specified source inside a web page. In the most typical case, the text from a single file is integrated in a second one, providing a website the feeling it is dynamic. As an example, if your site consists of ten web pages, five of them can have the content of some file, such as horoscope.txt. In case you change this text file, the modified content is going to appear on all five webpages, which shall allow you to update your site much easier than if you had to change a part of all five web pages. Server Side Includes is sometimes employed to include the output of simple commands, scripts or functions as well - a hit counter that's displayed on the site, the current time and date or the visitor's IP address. Every web page that works by using SSI must have a unique extension - .shtml.

Server Side Includes in Cloud Hosting

You'll be able to use Server Side Includes with all cloud hosting packages that we offer you and enable it separately for each domain name or subdomain in your hosting account. You can do this when using an .htaccess file, which needs to be positiioned in the folder in which you wish to use SSI and you need to put a few lines of code in that file. You can get the code within our Knowledgebase area, so you can just copy it, since you don't need any programming knowledge to benefit from all of the functions that our services contain. If you have currently built your website and you would like to use Server Side Includes later on, you must make certain that you rename the files from .html to .shtml and fix the links on the site, or else SSI is not going to work.

Server Side Includes in Semi-dedicated Hosting

It won't take you more than a minute to enable Server Side Includes when you have a semi-dedicated server package with our company. When you decide to activate this function, you have to make an .htaccess file in the main folder for the domain or subdomain in which you would like SSI to be active. In this file, you must copy some code, which you can find in the FAQ article we have devoted to SSI. You'll find the latter in the Help section of your Hosting Control Panel, so you do not require any previous knowledge about this kind of things. The only 2 things you should deal with are renaming all web pages that will use Server Side Includes from .html to .shtml and replacing all of the links on your site, to make sure they lead to the updated files.
